We were 3 friends... One from India and other 2 from Spain... We absolutely loved it. The owners were my favorite ;) So warm and loving they make sure your stay is worth it. More power to chris and daniela ! The staff is very helpful and they make lovely breakfast, i miss the organic jam! Rooms are quite spacious, nicely made! Room 6 is the best room for wifi and in general its the room for creative people, as we analyzed! Haha! Red lotus has a beautiful terrace, we spent the mornings there with sunshine and croissant. The location of the hotel is right at the centre and everything is pretty much walking distance, good restaurants, shops, etc. Honestly speaking, we loved red lotus and we shall be back very soon! Our stay at red lotus was simply amazing. The rooms are beautifully decorated, so spacious and so comfortable. The wifi works perfectly everywhere which was a first for us in India! The aircon and fan mean a lovely cool room. The breakfast was divine, it is up on the rooftop in a lovely comfy lounge. There is so much choice, we often had fresh croissants and homemade bread! Delicious! The staff made our stay so lovely, we felt welcome and homely. The German owners were so friendly and helped us out a lot. This has been the best place we've stayed so far in India and I highly reccommend it! Thank you Red Lotus :)

Gem in a beautiful town”
We arrived at around 10.30 on the 10/1. The place is a little difficult to find as the entrance is only accessible by one of the small side streets. But upon arriving reception was friendly & courteous & helped us with our bags and luggages. The only grimace was all food options closes at 10.30 and the only option left was a dominos pizza about 3-5 minutes walk away. Rooms were large, & clean, Tv was confusing to operate. Toilet was clean & basic. Aircon was cold enough. There wasn't a lift , so be prepared to do a bit of walking up and down the stairs. Breakfast was served on the rooftop restaurant. Really good home cooked food. Very well maintained restaurant. Basically 5 star for cleanliness. Which is the number 1 thing we look for when we travel. Compared to the previous 3 star experience in Chennai, this 3 star is leaps and bound better than Chennai. i would give it 4 stars. We managed to meet the owner when we left, Very courteous host, giving us tips and advise to where to travel in Pondicherry. Walking distance to the french colony/ white town. Full of nice restaurants & boutique restaurants. Keep up the good work

Our stay at the Red Lotus was simply beautiful. It felt like home. The menu was great, breakfast was brilliant not forgetting the coffee. They also have a small corner for children to play and read books. The interior of the rooms are very classy. Perfect location, friendly staff and management. We had an awesome stay. A very good boutique guest house run by a very warm and friendly couple: Daniela & Chris Stayed here from 14th-17th of this month. This is up and running from January 2014 and I must say its pretty nicely done with red exteriors and equally good interiors for all the 10 rooms on offer. Its a guest house so don't expect fancy hotel type room services and in-room luxuries (the staff is smiling, helpful and nice) but its a very good value for money stay right in the heart of Pondicherry for one and all. (5mins away from the main Beach Road on a bike). The rooms didn't have any TV (would be put up soon as suggested by Chris) or mini-bars (not licensed to have these as its a guest house). Anyway, you don't want to be a bore and laze around watching television and miss out on the beautiful, calm, serene, lovely outdoors of Pondicherry. They do have breakfast facility on the terrace priced at 350/- and also another option priced a little less. All fresh stuff, so that's a positive. Loved the place, loved the owners and loved Lé Pondi... Daniela & Chris..hope to see you guys soon in Mumbai :) Cheerssss!!

Great hotel, fair price, well located”
The Red Lotus is not as luxurious as the many other "french style" cafe hotel in Ponducherry. It's a good boutique hotel very well located just a tiny bit west of the French Colony. It's comfy, there is wifi and hot water. Need nothing more of an hotel... The roof terrace is nice!

Fresh and Comfortable”
More than happy that we chose this hotel at random. The location presented some problems for the taxi driver because the only sign is on a side street wall but once found you are within walking distance of many attractions. Be prepared for a bit of noise but that really is part of the fun of staying in such a great location. Our room was No6 and it had a motorbike theme which was kind of fun. One thing to determine is what type of breakfast is part of the deal if your booking comes with breakfast provided. This wasn't explained to us and we ended up paying an extra 700 rupees per night. No big deal but I would have liked that clarified on checking-in. Having said that, the Big Breakfast was great! I would recommend this place.

Very interesting themed décor. No lift/elevator and steep stairs. Very clean with good A/C, hot water & wifi. Short walk to the beach and heritage centre, markets etc and very close to a remarkable elephant which will "bless" you with its trunk for 10 rupees - ask the staff. Not cheap.

Great stay”
For the price, the stay was totally worth it. We travelled as 2 couples and each got a themed room. Many mention that being situated on the main road, its nosiy but we did not feel so. It's nice to be in the heart of town and have key places at a stone's throw. Would definitely recommend to others.

Below average hospitality”
1. We reached Pondicherry at 6am, took an auto, called and asked the guest house receptionist to guide the auto driver since we did not know to converse in Tamil. Which he did partially.we were almost lost!since the place is located on the Jawaharlal Nehru Road, we could find it ourselves. 2. We had intimidated them the previous day that we will be checking in early, for which they weren't prepared even though not all of their rooms on 1st floor were occupied. 3. The rooms in which they have a television, they do not have a mirror other than the one in the bathroom! And the ones which have a mirror, do not have a television! 4.their complementary breakfast is bare minimum. The French one comprises of 3 varieties of bread, one type of home made jam, butter and tea/coffee. The South Indian one has dosa/ idli with coffee/tea. 5. Since it is facing the street, it gets very noisy in the evenings. 6. The manager is extremely ignorant and did not check the dates for which we had booked,created a ruckus and asked us when we were checking out rudely. 7. On the last day of our stay, they said that the gas cylinder is empty and we will have to wait to get breakfast! After waiting for 20min they say it will take longer! We had kept our taxi waiting because of these people's shabby hospitality! 8. It seriously felt like these people are not keen on having Indian guests as they said they give rooms on 1st floor to Indians and the ones on 2nd floor to foreigners!why this discrimination I wonder?!!by the way,the owner of the guest house is a foreigner. 9. Overall we managed it since everything else was nearby, which was the only advantage!

Economic Hotel”
Budget hotel in a good location near to all shopping areas, french streets, 10 min walk to promenade and rock beach. Staff were courteous and helpful. But breakfast options are very limited and the hotel is just a house converted in to hotel, noisy since facing road. Did not match with what was mentioned in their website. Overall an average experience in the hotel.

Nice place to stay”
Rooms and bathrooms lovely and very clean. Breakfast a little small and reception staff not very knowalageble about the town, so not vey helpful in planning day's activities. They have a lovely roof terrace, but sadly not open in the evening, however, I went up and used it, it's a nice place to chill out. One of the better places I've found to stay whilst travelling round India.

very noisy ”
The place is very noisy. The hotel is located on a main road with very light wooden doors. The design of the rooms is OK but no drawers, no tv and very raw bathroom... The place is well located at a walking distance from the old town. The breakfast is good with some local products (croissants, bread...) from the bakeries but the choice is very limites choice. The couple who manage the place is incredibly kind and helpful for every thing.

Clean and good location ”
It's a nice place to stay, the rooms are quite large and the location is good, also the owners are lovely and full of local travel tips, they also helped me out when I wasn't feeling well which was so kind! The only down side would be that the breakfast isn't served early enough on a daily basis, however when I was up early to leave they did arrange an early breakfast especially for me.

I loves their design . Each room are designed by owner's wife and looks cool. Staff were so kind and home made jam was very tasty in breakfast. Good location to go beach side , ashram and city market. Great experience.

The hotel is in a busy market area and is noisy!”
While the hotel is good for adult travellers, its not the best if you are travelling with kids. The price is steep considering there is no room service, breakfast's not included, there's no open / common area. The hotel would be perfect if the room rent was lower.

Not bad, could have been better”
Overall good. Check-in flexibilty was an issue. Checkout @ 6PM at 500/- extra was good. The same should be extended for check-in if rooms are available. In our case, it was available, but the hotel staff wouldn't allow us to check in before 12 PM. For people coming in early in the morning, this is an issue. Hope they think about it
