Exceptional”
Amazing experience. Clean. Private. Your own toilet and sink. Delicious breakfast and optional multi- course dinner. The staff works very hard to make your stay here private and traditional yet relaxed. You are given your own time slot for meals and your own private time in the outdoor hot spring. the ryokan only has a few guests at a time yet I’ve never stayed anywhere and met so many interesting people. The bed is traditional on the floor but “memory foam-ish” and comfortable. It’s close to train station and great restaurants. They drive you to the monkey park in the morning. Staff speaks English.

Exceptional”
We only stayed for one night, but couldn't have been happier with our stay. The staff, who spoke good English, couldn't have been more kind, friendly and helpful. We arrived before check in and were able to leave our bags. We chose this Ryokan because of the outdoor Onsen facility and particular because we had read you could use it privately. When we arrived we were able to book a time slot for the private use of the outdoor Onsen. In the evenings they reserve the onsen for private use and each room gets a half an hour slot, which is plenty of time. The water is super hot! We loved this experience! The indoor Onsen is basically the bathroom. There is one for men and one for women. If you have never bathed naked communally, it can be a bit daunting, but you just have to go with the flow and accept that's how it is! Toiletries all provided! The breakfast was delicious and traditional Japanese. Rooms were spacious, warm and clean. We had a toilet and sink. Highly recommended this Ryokan!

Wonderful Stay”
We had the most wonderful few nights at the Ryokan and only wish we could have stayed even longer. The hotel is run by the most friendly and welcoming family who were so accommodating throughout our stay and gave us great advise on the local area. The onsen is just beautiful, such a relaxing way to end the day. We loved wearing the yukata they provided! Out of a 5 month trip around the world, this place will definitely be one of the greatest highlights!

We stayed at this ryokan while visiting the snow monkeys. The staff was incredibly helpful and kind. We had a 30 minute window where we could reserve the private onsen. It was amazing in the middle of winter while it was snowing. They event dusted off our car when we left. Would definitely recommend this!

Comfy & Hospitable Stay!”
It was our first day in Japan, although the hotel was a down slope & not easy to find nevertheless we enjoyed the onsen & they also have an outdoor onsen available for booking. Each room will be given a time slot to use it. If you’re lucky a transport is available, they might be able to pick you from the train station, we got a drop off when we left the next day! The dinner & breakfast was SUPERB! so tasty & room is so big. Such a comfy stay to start with

Had a 2-nights pleasant stay at Yudanaka. The hosts were very welcoming and service was exceptional. The host spoke good english and food was superb!! Private onsen is a plus. They also went the extra mile to await our arrival at the station to shuttle us to the accommodation. There’s also free shuttle service to the Snow Monkey Park in the morning. Highly recommend this ryokan and to go for the dinner at least once!

The staff took great care of us, and the facilities are terrific. You can reserve the private bath for time by yourselves, and it's beautiful. Especially loved relaxing in the hot spring surrounded by snowy trees.

Wonderful stay, highly recommended!”
We spent 2 nights at Yudanaka Tawaraya Ryokan with our 4 year-old daughter. The Ryokan was just 5 mins away from Yudanaka station if you go down along the slope. Just a bit slippery when the slope is filled with snow, but it’s fine to walk slowly holding the handrail. The Ryokan is in tradition Japanese style operates by a family. The owner and her family members were very nice and very helpful. It always fully booked during peak season as they only provide around 10 rooms. It’s good to keep the business small so they can pay full attention to every family and respond quickly for their needs. Every family could reserve a time slot for private bath at the hot spring. It was a very nice experience when it was snowing and the snowflakes fell on your head. The Japanese style dinner and breakfast were amazing! They provided udon and desserts specially for my daughter too! We were so appreciated for their detailed minded. Don’t miss the free shuttle to the snow monkey which was 15 mins drive only. The second night we didn’t have our dinner there, they had a map which showed their recommended restaurants nearby. Highly recommended the traditional Japanese little home-style restaurant called “Isyokutei komadori”. Full of childhood memories when you first entered the restaurant. Price was cheap but food was very delicious! Just 1 min walk from the Ryokan. We enjoyed our stay there and we love this little town so much!

Warm and friendly ryokan with great service ”
Service is really good. The lady we interact with speaks really good English. The outdoor bath is really beautiful, especially with snow. Breakfast is good and so is dinner. Its a little hard to find though and the area is quiet, so it's good for those who wants somewhere peaceful. Can get crowded over the weekend though.
